The tour takes you along the South coast of Iceland to the magnificent and other-world-like Glacial Lagoon, Jokulsarlon. Drive along the south coast with its beautiful mountains and scenery. Along the route we pass charming villages such as Selfoss, Vik and Kirkjubaejarklaustur as well as Skogafoss waterfall and Skaftafell National Park.
We will drive through the desert of Skeidararsandur flood plains where many of Icelands biggest glacial rivers run into the Atlantic Ocean on the south shore carrying millions of tons of black volcanic sand.
Just before we reach the lagoon we pass the glaciated volcano Oraefajokull glacier, the summit Hvannadalshnjukur 2110 m is the highest peak of the Iceland.
At the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon we view this stunning area before we take a boat tour on the lagoon.
The sightseeing boats are no ordinary boats as they are capable of driving short distances as well as sailing on the water. You will see huge blocks of ice that have broken off Europes biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, and drift slowly towards the coast, only 2 km away. Some of the icebergs are partly covered with a layer of volcanic ash deposits from eruptions underneath the ice field, true sculptures of nature.
After a refreshing sail on the lagoon we head back to Reykjavik.
